It’s natural for small pieces of the foods you eat like popcorn hulls, meat fibers, seeds, and fruit peels to get stuck between your teeth. Bad habits like chewing on objects like pencils and pencils can break small pieces off small pieces that can cause discomfort and pressure.

If a foreign object does get stuck between your teeth, you need to stay calm. You should never attempt to use toothpicks or sharp, pointed tools to pry the object loose. This could injure your gums or damage tooth enamel.

The first thing you should reach for is waxed dental floss. The waxy coating allows the strand to slide easier between teeth to worked around the foreign object. You should never force the floss into place, as it could seriously injure your gums.

A floss threader with wax coated floss can also be handy for working at the object from a different position. Sometimes a dental fountain or oral water jet can loosen debris.
